Citing a large increase in the number of clients from the Sahuarita area, the Green Valley Community Food Bank has officially changed its name to the Green Valley-Sahuarita Community Food Bank.

“The Green Valley Community Food Bank was originally established to provide food assistance to the low income senior citizens living on Social Security,” said Mary Jane Goodrick, Executive Director.

“However, the demographics in the community at large have changed. Currently, only 17% are over 60 and 35% are under 17 years of age. 63% of our clients are from Sahuarita.”

“After careful consideration, the Advisory Board decided that a name change to the Green Valley-Sahuarita Community Food Bank would better define our service area and enhance our resources from both communities that we serve,” added Ms. Goodrick.

The Green Valley-Sahuarita Community Food Bank is located at 250 E. Continental, Green Valley, Arizona 85650.

For more information, contact Mary Jane Goodrick, Executive Director at (520) 625-5252.

Founded in 1976, the Community Food Bank provides education, advocacy, and food for people throughout Southern Arizona including Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties.

Mobile Meals now serving Green Valley!
Mobile Meals of Tucson will be working with La Posada and Casa de Esperanza in Green Valley to expand their service outside of Tucson.

Anyone needing meals, or who would refer home-bound seniors for the service can call 622-1600, and volunteers from the Green Valley area who want to help can also call, with extended liability insurance and gas reimbursement available. Two meals are delivered each weekday, prepared by La Posada, with diet restrictions and needs for each resident. Mobile Meals has provided special meals since 1970, with most recipients over sixty, but younger clients with debilitating illness can also receive meals.
Clients thus can remain at home, rather than having to go to a nursing home or other facility.
In Tucson about two hundred eleven people get the meals Monday through Friday. It is a volunteer, non profit organization, with four staff and almost four hundred volunteers, with a registered dietitian who ensures the proper diet for those receiving the service.
